Whatever You Do, Don't Read This...
If you're accustomed to finding a comfortable seat in the auditorium of your church and/or bible class every Sunday (or so) to be reassured that everthing is right with the world...
If you think that you (and/or evangelical Americans in general) have your "religious" act together ...
If you don't want to be bothered with the thought that you are ignoring a mission to reach the disenfranchised and poor with the gospel...
AND if you don't want to be disturbed with thoughts that there is a crisis in the way evangelicals are ignoring a critical aspect of their role in the Kingdom of God...
Whatever you do - DON'T read this interview of Ron Seider on Christianity Today's web site. We need to rethink our theology. We need to ask, "Are we really biblical?" Cheap grace is right at the core of the problem. Cheap grace results when we reduce the gospel to forgiveness of sins only; when we limit salvation to personal fire insurance against hell; when we misunderstand persons as primarily souls; when we at best grasp only half of what the Bible says about sin; when we embrace the individualism and materialism and relativism of our current culture. We also lack a biblical understanding and practice of the church.
