Blowing Up Comets

NASA scientists are claiming that they intentially rammed a space probe into a comet at a high velocity so that they could "study" the comet for various clues to the origin of life, the nature of the cosmos, etc. But who is willing to bet that, laying all of the scientific benefits aside, they also wanted to do it just becaue it sounded like a really, really cool thing to do?

And it worked! To borrow an old line from SCTV, it blowed up reeeeal gooood!
