Sound Parenting Advice from a Reliable Source
Attention parents:
Some of you have probably already heard about a video game (or, as Hank Hill calls it, a "vidjuh game") called Grand Theft Auto. GTA is - by all accounts - a mediocre "M" rated game in which the player (as I understand it) commits traffic and vice offenses of various degrees of seriousness until he/she is chased down and arrested by The Man.
Because the source of all evil in the world is clearly a result of pimply faced middle class teenagers going on simulated crime sprees on their X-Boxes, I thought it would be fair to warn you that a number of organizations are opposed to your children playing this game. Among them, of course, are the usual suspects - conservative politicians and family-oriented organizations.
However, now joining their proud ranks is the Sex Workers Outreach Project USA - which is also calling on - and I quote - "parents and all gamers to boycott Grand Theft Auto."
Because I know that you - as a conscientious parent of a pre-teen or teenager - are eager to respond to the call of any organization with the words "Sex Workers" in its title - I wanted to alert you immediately.

This is weird. Last night I managed to tie my computer up with a large back-up process and I was looking around for something to fill the void. I found a copy of GTA that had come with the system and had never been played. I put it in and fired it up. It was horrible. Not just offensive, it was just dopey and poorly done.
So I'm with the sex workers on this one I guess.
That confirms everything I've heard about GTA and its successors. Not great games to begin with - and very juvenile in its tone.
I am still blown away, though, about how an organization that looks out for the interests of prostitutes is urging PARENTS to not let their kids play this thing. Just not much cred there, I would think.
