No Comment Lent
I've thought about giving up commenting on other people's blogs for Lent. For me, this is a sacrifice - I have to give up the attention and ego-boosting exeperience of putting in my two cents on whatever the topic of the day is. I have to surrender a small part of the spotlight, just like someone who gives up soda pop or chocolate is giving up a small part of their diet. It forces me to listen and yield, rather than press my own ideas in one particular realm of communication.
This would not apply to my own blog, by the way. Sometimes comments here are necessary to keep conversations going on critical subjects, such as (a) breakfast food preparation with cell phones and (b) ensuring that all activities are properly categorized as sports or non-sports.
Haven't made it official yet, but I'm withholding from making comments at other places right now in case I decide to take the plunge and really do it.
My worry is: that really isn't very much, is it? To just give up commenting on other blogs? Is that one just too superficial and pointless to qualify as a meaningful "fast" for Lent?
